48H Open House Barcelona

26-27 October 2024

About Open House Barcelona

48h Open House BCN is an annual in-person festival and offers different types of visits: small group guided visits in buildings, self-guided visits in buildings and areas, audioguide building tours and itineraries. The festival represents a unique opportunity to enjoy architectural experiences related to the city's history: from Roman ruins to contemporary architecture, going through Catalan Gothic, Neoclassic, Modernist and Modern Style buildings which are all included in the program. It also includes a wide range of dwellings and many examples of urban transformation that allow citizens to enhance their knowledge of Barcelona's history. Besides, different themed tours are available: tours related to Sustainability, Infrastructures and Social Housing; tours about lesser renowned architects (like J.M. Jujol; a collaborator of Gaudí, R. Guastavino; creator of the construction system "La volta Catalana" or the under-celebrated women architects). Since the 2018 edition we have introduced handicapped and sign language accessible tours specifically indicated on the website map.

The event aims to encourage locals to appreciate the value of good architecture and urbanism, offering 275 activities (227 buildings and 48 itineraries) of different architecture styles, building forms and sizes to the public. The 48h Open House BCN program is built around the broad network of buildings that will open their doors to the public and it is set within seven Barcelona boroughs (Barcelona, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Vilassar de Dalt, Sant Joan Despí, Badalona, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat and Sitges). The participation of many architects and volunteers explaining the city's architecture, different creative participation activities which complement the event (Open Sketch, Opengram Open Foto), and the fact that it is a completely free event, encourages citizens to improve architecture and public urban space knowledge.
