Open House Rome

The cultural association Open City Roma is delighted to present the fifth edition of Open House Roma, which will celebrate the architecture and design of Rome. Rome is a world-class city that is celebrated and visited for its established architecture, monuments and culture, and for one weekend the public is invited to explore its best architecture with a particular focus on contemporary design.

Open House Rome 2019 will showcase 150 sites that will be opened in seven main areas of the city: the Historical Centre; the Parioli and Flaminio neighborhoods, where the new Zaha Hadid museum MAXXI is located; the Nomentano-Pietralata area, where a major reshaping of the urban landscape is currently ongoing, a great example is the MACRO museum with the restoration of the old block of the Peroni brewery designed by the french architect Odile Decq; the Esquilino-San Lorenzo, multiethnic and dynamic area, the Appio-San Giovanni, where archeological sites and new buildings are mixed together, the EUR-Corviale district, home to some of the best 20th century buildings, and finally Monteverde-Ostiense, one of the most active area in term of maker spaces, night life and contemporary infill.

The event will feature a balanced mix of large and small scale ancient and contemporary architectures, spanning over the millenarian history of the city of Rome.

The event follows the established Open House format of free access for all, with talks, tours, special events and experts at the buildings. The 2019 guide will be available with full details of buildings and events in early April.
