About Open House Hsinchu
Hsinchu, the home to the world’s largest contract chipmaker: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC). In 1980, the Taiwanese government established the Hsinchu Science Park, a major industrial park, currently one of the world's most significant centers for semiconductor manufacturing, industrial and computer technology development. The park contributes a major proportion of Taiwan's GDP. This made Hsinchu a vital economic hub for the worldwide semiconductor industry and the city is known as the “Silicon Shield” for Taiwan. Surrounding the Science Park, there are many governmental research institutes, scientific centers and top universities settled in the city.
Besides its industry, in history, Hsinchu was the earliest city to develop in northern Taiwan. Therefore, it is also an important cultural center of Taiwan. The Chenghuang Temple of Hsinchu, built during the Kingdom of Tungning, is a common prayer destination. Open House Hsinchu would like not only to help on the systematic construction of the body of knowledge for local Hsinchu culture and living but also to showcase the connection of Hsinchu and the world through the exploration of architecture and built environment; such as cultural heritage spaces, special industrial spaces, scientific constructions, commercial houses, green buildings and hundred-year-old local stores and so on.
Open House Hsinchu welcomes everyone to visit this happy and slightly windy coastal city with mountains. As a vehicle and mechanism for people’s engagement, we offer the opportunities for you to discover those undiscovered domains through the common human legacies within this sunny and wonderful destination.
