Join the Network
become an open house city
Open House Worldwide is constantly growing, and we are always happy to help new cities join the network.
Open House is a high-profile annual cultural event in cities across the globe. Open House raises awareness of good design and urban issues amongst local citizens everywhere from Santiago to Seoul, via Lagos, London, and beyond. Fundamentally an urban event, cities seeking to join the network generally have a population of at least 400,000 and an exceptional number of historic and contemporary buildings.
core principles
The Open House events should maintain the core values of the Open House concept: to foster appreciation and understanding of the built environment amongst local communities and to make architecture and urban neighbourhoods more open, accessible, and equitable.
Traditionally, all buildings taking part in the Open House events are open to the public for free, with no exclusive entry over the event itself, and no mandatory charges are made to building owners to participate in an Open House event.
The Open House events are organised by not-for-profit organisations or charities, separate from political ties and professional institutions. The organisation's core aims are centred on architecture or the built environment and the citizens of that city.
The primary aim of Open House is an architectural education event within the setting of an urban city for its citizens.
