Two new cities host their inaugural Open House festival this December
OPEN HOUSE HSINCHU
11-12 DECEMBER
Located 80 km south of Taipei, Hsinchu is the oldest city in northern Taiwan. Nicknamed the "Silicon Shield" for Taiwan, the coastal city is one of the world's most significant centers for semiconductor manufacturing.
This December, the debut of Open House Hsinchu will feature more than 60 sites ranging from stylish private mansions, high-tech industrial buildings, studios of architecture, and designers to places of worship and historical buildings. The festival invites design professionals and the general public to explore and discover the city by engaging in online forums, workshops, concerts, and walking tours.
OPEN HOUSE MALAGA
10-12 DECEMBER
The first Andalucian city to host an Open House festival, Málaga opens nearly 40 spaces to visitors for its inaugural edition.
The port city in southern Spain is the birthplace of artist Pablo Picasso and home to the Picasso Museum. Festival participants have the opportunity to take a tour of the museum with the architects who transformed a Mediterranean Renaissance Palacio de Buenavista into a museum.
In addition to the walking and building tours, unique experiences on offer include "Los órganos de la Catedral, la arquitectura de un instrument," a talk and concert by the organist of the cathedral, Adalberto Martínez Solaesa, and the Choir of the College of Architects of Málaga.
OPEN HOUSE LAGOS
10-12 DECEMBER
Open House Lagos, the first and biggest architectural festival in Nigeria, runs a hybrid programme in 2021, themed Memories and the City. Participants worldwide can join one of the many digital events for exclusive access to some of Lagos's most coveted architecture.
