Open House RomA
6-14 April 2024
Open House Roma celebrates the architecture and design of Rome, the world-class city that is celebrated and visited for its established architecture, monuments and culture. For one weekend a year, the public is invited to explore the city’s best architecture including its contemporary design.
Festival highlights have included the Historical Centre; the Parioli and Flaminio neighbourhoods where the new Zaha Hadid museum MAXXI is located; the Nomentano-Pietralata area where a major reshaping of the urban landscape is currently ongoing and a great example is the MACRO museum with the restoration of the old block of the Peroni brewery designed by the french architect Odile Decq; the Esquilino-San Lorenzo and its multiethnic and dynamic area; the Appio-San Giovanni where archaeological sites and new buildings are mixed together; the EUR-Corviale district home to some of the best 20th-century buildings; and Monteverde-Ostiense, one of the most active areas in term of maker spaces, nightlife and contemporary infill.
The event features a balanced mix of large and small scale ancient and contemporary architectures, spanning over the millenarian history of the city of Rome. The event follows the established Open House format of free access for all, with talks, tours, special events and experts at the buildings.
