About Open House Vienna
Vienna ranks as the city with the world’s best quality of living, according to the Mercer 2012 Quality of Living Survey. Part of this is due to its outstanding architecture and design. During Open House Vienna about 100 buildings - many of which are normally inaccessible - will open their doors for the general public, free of charge.
Open House Vienna invites residents and guests to get to know their neighborhood and previously unknown parts of the city. To personally experience architecture, to get a fresh look at architecture and design as such, and to feel the urban energy of Vienna.
Vienna combines tradition and modern life in a special way. Open House Vienna is set to open doors of commercial and residential buildings, of highlights in the history of architecture and state of the art contemporary buildings.

Sonnwendviertel Ost – Ein neuer Stadtbaustein
The progressive social housing of the “Red Vienna” period in the early-20th century is well-known worldwide. Where does the city stand today in comparison? With around 15,000 new inhabitants a year, there is massive demand for new housing in Vienna. This documentary monitors the development of Sonnwendviertel Ost, a brand new neighbourhood. By introducing cooperative processes and inscribing pilot-projects into the framework, it has the potential to make a substantial contribution to promoting inclusiveness on an urban scale, as well as housing the growing numbers of new Viennese.

Car Parks as Hybrid Infrastructure: A multi-story
While changes in behaviour around urban mobility are ongoing, progressive thought around the use of cars will be crucial to support them. Even with the ambition of car-free cities in mind, we often still find ourselves in everyday negotiations around parking spaces, car parks and their relationship to the quality of public spaces. In this film and discussion, the potential of a familiar typology – the multi-storey car park – is considered for its potential hybrid uses in the urban landscapes of tomorrow.
