​​The 7th edition of Open House Madrid pays tribute to Luis Gutiérrez Soto, one of the major figures of modern architecture in Spain with around 400 built projects in Madrid. During the festival, you can take guided tours of Soto's buildings, browse an exhibition dedicated to his work, and more. Can't make it to Madrid? "Edificios de Madrid" is a Spanish language micro-documentary series where renowned architects share exclusive details of the Spanish capital's iconic and hidden-in-plain-sight buildings. New fast-paced episodes are released weekly on YouTube.

OPEN HOUSE ESSEN

Open House Essen, the first edition of Open House in Germany, focuses on the redevelopment of the city’s downtown core. It opens the doors of converted spaces such as the headquarters of Greyfield Group, the Design Offices in Ruhrturm, and Motel One in the former Heroldhaus. To kick off the festival on 22/9, OHE brings together architects, urban planners, and civic leaders to discuss sustainability and alternatives to new construction and the economic and social benefits of adapting existing structures. And to close the festival on 28/8, OHE hosts a conversation about creating more vibrant, open, and accessible city centres.

OPEN HOUSE LISBOA
24-25 SEPTEMBER

Open House Lisboa opens the doors to private houses and flats, offers behind-the-scenes tours of museums and theatres, and more. Curated by architecture collective Baldios, the 2021 edition expands to Almada and highlights the role of the Tagus river and its underlying potential to extend the city. The festival offers more than 70 buildings to visit in person, 9 urban tours of each water line, and programmes for families and people with disabilities. One sound walk exploring the river crossing between Lisbon and Almada is available for listening remotely.

OPEN HOUSE MILANO
25-26 SEPTEMBER

Milan is experiencing a peculiar phase of great change in recent years and Open House Milano acts as an observatory of the transformation, narrating the metamorphosis of the urban fabric to a transversal audience. Sites include the iconic Monte Amiata Housing complex in the Gallaratese district, also known as the "Red Dinosaur" in reference to its reddish colour and the oddity of its design. A digital programme of interviews in Italian is available on Open House Milano's website and social channels.

OPEN HOUSE OSLO
25-26 SEPTEMBER

Open House Oslo also opens doors to more than 65 buildings on the last weekend of September. Don't miss the architect-led tours of the new Deichman Public Library. Designed by Lundhagem in collaboration with Atelier Oslo, the library is a vibrant hub, a modern meeting place for learning and exchange in the Bjørvika district. Learn about the building’s ambitious sustainability standards and how its cantilevered design takes advantage of a small site. The building has been nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van Der Rohe Award 2022.
