December: Lagos and Hsinchu

FESTIVALS

OPEN HOUSE LAGOS
LAGOS, NIGERIA
2-4 DECEMBER

The 2022 Open House Lagos focuses on reclaimed lands with “New Reclaimed.” Contrary to common assumptions, “New Lagos” refers not only to reclaimed land but to all other outward expansion outside of Lagos — sometimes into Ogun State or nearby villages. The festival includes conversations about the redefinition and decolonization of museums and urban regeneration and reclamation; tours of the Polo Club, Boat Club, The Quad, Tiwani Art Gallery, JOI House; and more.

OPEN HOUSE HSINCHU
HSINCHU, TAIWAN
10-11 DECEMBER

“Discover Hakka” is the theme of the second edition of Open House Hsinchu. Originating from Han Chinese people, the Hakka are characterized throughout history as both conservative and creative. Since the Qing Dynasty, Hakka immigrants to Taiwan have been overlooked as a minority disadvantaged group and had an invisible status. However, Hakka people account for around 70 percent of the population in the Hsinchu area.

Join Open House Hsinchu for a two-day forum exploring and discussing the cultural influence of the Hakka on the style of local architecture, living spaces, and the intangible built environment. The main venue for the forum is Art Site of Railway Warehouse, formerly known as Warehouse No. 3, No. 4, and No. 5 of the Taiwan Railway Company in Hsinchu Station. This venue has been transformed into a base for artist-in-residency programs and cultural events and is the entry point for you to embark on a journey of Hakka culture.

EDIFICIOS DE MADRID

LA MUSICA SI FA SPAZIO

La musica si fa spazio (music makes space) is a collection of podcasts by Open House Roma dedicated to the relationship between music and architecture. Each episode is a journey to the places where some of the most interesting sound experiments from the twentieth century to today have taken place: architectures and landscapes interpreted by musicians not only as scenery, but as real musical and research instruments.

Three new episodes have been released for the 2022 Creature Festival: La città è il mio teatro (the city is my theater); La musica si fa paesaggio (music becomes landscape); and La musica creata dallo spazio pubblico (music created by public space).

In Italian only.
