Coming up: Open House Festivals in Malaga, Lisbon, Rosario & Prague
UPCOMING FESTIVALS
OPEN HOUSE MÁLAGA
MALAGA, SPAIN
10-12 MAY
More than 55 activities are on offer for Open House Malaga, including building visits and guided tours with historians and architects. The programme includes several novelties, including the Farola de Málaga lighthouse, a symbol of the city opening to the public for the first time; the former Convent of San Andrés, which currently houses the municipal public library Jorge Guillén; and the Martiricos Nursery School with a hidden gem—a 24 meter wide by 18 meter long model of the Iberian Peninsula.
OPEN HOUSE LISBOA
LISBON, PORTUGAL
11-12 MAY
Curated by sociologist Sandra Marques Pereira and architect Alexandre Marques Pereira, the 2024 edition of Open House Lisboa explores transitions—what changes has Lisbon undergone over time? Which ones endure with greater or lesser longevity?
To understand the complexity of ongoing changes in the city, the festival is opening up spaces like the monumental campus of the National Laboratory of Civil Engineering (LNEC), which occupies an area of 2.2 hectares and is classified as a Monument of Public Interest; the Ismaili Centre and its sumptuous gardens in Laranjeiras; and the Antigo Hotel Vitória, the Art Deco headquarters of the Portuguese Communist Party.
Can’t make it to Lisbon? Don’t miss OHL’s soundwalks—audio journeys through the city narrated by cultural figures who offer a distinctive perspective on how to listen, see, embrace, and live the public spaces of Lisbon.
OPEN HOUSE ROSARIO
ROSARIO, ARGENTINA
11-12 MAY
Open House Rosario's 7th edition dives into the deepest part of the heart of the city: the home. Not only understood as individual houses but as lived spaces—collective houses, community buildings, and places of importance to history, heritage, and local culture. Highlights of the programme include artist Juana Torres' live/work studio that offers a glimpse into the world reflected in her abstract paintings; the headquarters of the College of Architects with a striking glass façade; and the Fuentes Palace, which houses the International Museum for Democracy.
OPEN HOUSE PRAHA
PRAGUE, CZECHIA
13-19 MAY
Open House Prague turns ten this May with a festival that will open 115 buildings and spaces. Participants will get a chance to visit the Nostitz Palace, where the Ministry of Culture is located, walk around the Prague Main Railway station, which has recently undergone important restoration work, and much more.
