OPEN HOUSE WIEN
VIENNA, AUSTRIA
9-10 SEPTEMBER

Under the motto "How the City Lives and Learns!" Open House Wien opens more than 60 buildings across Vienna and the surrounding area. This year’s festival includes three “theme trails.” Mid-Century Vienna features outstanding and hidden-in-plain-sight buildings constructed between the 1950s and early 1960s. Lifelong Learning takes visitors to the city’s varied educational institutions, from kindergartens and universities to libraries and research laboratories. A special series curated by the national architecture network IG Architektur invites dialogue between residents, planners and developers to discuss how architecture can contribute to a good life in the city.

OPEN HOUSE MADRID
MADRID, SPAIN
21-24 SEPTEMBER

Open House Madrid unlocks over 100 iconic buildings, rarely open spaces, and recently completed projects. Activities include tours, visits to architecture studios, outdoor walks, exhibitions, and more.

The 2023 edition also pays homage to architect José María García de Paredes (1924-1990), whose work is described as cultured, unhurried, and silent architecture. In spaces like Auditorio Nacional de Música (National Music Auditorium), García de Paredes perfected a room with extraordinary acoustics, like a musical object embedded in an austere building that consolidated the musical life of Madrid.

More than 80 projects, varied and rich in styles, expressions, and colours, will be open for Open House Oslo. The festival programme focuses on water and features three new public swimming pools (including Tøyenbadet, the city’s largest, while still under renovation); developments along the inner city harbour and seafront; a self-building project; and much more. Festival highlights also include a range of restored and new villas; parts of the capital region's largest climate-neutral developments built to FutureBuilt standards; Northern Europe’s largest green roof; and the fjordside, temporary maritime research centre (pictured) designed and built by students of the Oslo School of Architecture. Select buildings will offer special activities for kids and young people.
