Discover Open House Festivals in Gdansk, Monterrey, Stockholm, and Zurich
OPEN HOUSE GDAŃSK
GDANSK, POLAND
29 SEPTEMBER-1 OCTOBER
The 2023 edition of Open House Gdańsk takes a deep dive into Zaspa — the largest block of flats built at the end of the 1970s and one of the greenest districts of the city. When it was completed, Zaspa was one of Poland's most modern and functionalist projects. Its honeycomb shape sited buildings at the edges and placed large green patios and shared resources such as schools and shops at the center.
The festival programme includes walking tours with experts in architecture, urbanism, art, history, biology, and music; lectures; concerts by young local bands; and an open Archi-Disco on Saturday nights. Tours include private apartments and art studios within the complex.
OPEN HOUSE MONTERREY
MONTERREY, MEXICO
29 SEPTEMBER-1 OCTOBER
Open House Monterrey offers guided tours at more than 60 buildings, as well as panels, art interventions, contests, and other activities. Highlights include La Luz 1126 by Edith Arquitectura and León Staines, Labnl by Taller Arquitectónico, and Bengala by Errata, all showing different forms of urban renewal. Space for Reflection by Alberto Kalach, Skyspace by James Turrell, and Makerspace by Garza Camisay give visitors a sample of the new perspectives of universities. And new public spaces such as IFPP by Lenoir & Asociados, Parque Bosques Del Valle by Diego González Alanís, and a Skatepark of 40 round out the list of projects not to be missed.
The festival returns in 2023 after a 3-year hiatus with a new team of volunteers, sponsors, and organisers led by director Karla Mejía.
OPEN HOUSE STOCKHOLM
STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
29 SEPTEMBER-1 OCTOBER
Open House Stockholm gives visitors the unique opportunity to explore some of the city's most fascinating spaces, including the Reaktorhallen at KTH - Sweden's first nuclear reactor, now transformed into a captivating space for creativity. The festival also features modern office spaces throughout central Stockholm's skyscrapers, offering insights into innovative workplace design. Visitors can also get an exclusive glimpse of the Royal Waiting Hall, admire impressive wooden architectural structures, and explore the diversity of the city.
Open House Stockholm is made possible with the support of a team of dedicated local volunteers and volunteers from select European Open House cities.
OPEN HOUSE ZÜRICH
ZURICH, SWITZERLAND
30 SEPTEMBER-1 OCTOBER
More than 100 buildings and outdoor spaces will be open for Open House Zurich to show outstanding historic and contemporary architecture across the greater Zurich area.
